Mayor Nadine Taylor

Conference opening

A proud Marlborough local, Nadine entered local Government in 2016, quickly rising to the positions of Deputy Mayor and Committee Chair, before being elected Mayor in 2022 with a resounding mandate.

Before entering local government Nadine worked in communications and as a consultant to the commercial fishing industry.

In the early years she and her husband lived on the isolated Arapaoa Island and fished the challenging Cook Strait waters together; building a successful family fishing company that now includes next generation family-members. Her time working at sea shaped her enduring commitment to balancing economic, social and cultural wellbeing with the need for strong environmental management.

As Mayor of a unitary council, Nadine leads with a focus on resilience, having led the complex storm recovery efforts in the Marlborough Sounds and championed climate-ready infrastructure and planning across the region.

Nadine has a degree in Political Science and a Post Graduate Degree in History, from the University of Canterbury. She has nine years’ experience as an accredited RMA Hearings Commissioner, including five years as Chair.

Nadine is committed to a thriving Marlborough – where communities are connected and resilient, the economy is future-ready, and the natural environment that underpins the region’s prosperity and quality of life is protected.
