Matt is the Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Group Manager for Marlborough. Commencing this role in 2025, Matt’s background includes previous roles with the National Emergency Management Agency largely considering catastrophic event scenarios such as responding to a rupture of the alpine fault. No stranger to complexity, Matt’s 23 year military career included multiple security and capacity building deployments to the Middle East, Africa and the south west Pacific under various UN, international and national mandates.

With family ties to Marlborough, Matt’s focus is now firmly local, working with Marlborough District Council, partner agencies and local communities to reduce risk, improve resilience and being prepared to respond to and recover from hazard events.
